About Ciudad de Catamayo Airport
Ciudad de Catamayo Airport is the main airport serving Loja, the capital of Loja Province in southern Ecuador. It is the only commercial airport in the province and primarily connects the region with Quito and other domestic destinations.
The airport is located in the Catamayo valley west of Loja, at an elevation of about 1,238 meters. A modernized passenger terminal of around 2,800 square meters entered service in May 2013, improving arrivals, check-in and pre-boarding areas.
Because of the surrounding mountains and runway configuration, operations take place mainly during daylight hours and pilots use an RNAV approach procedure. The airport plays a key role for business travelers, residents and visitors heading to Loja and nearby towns such as Vilcabamba and Malacatos.
Ground connections include taxis and buses between the airport, Catamayo and Loja, with onward options to destinations across the province. Travelers can also arrange private transfers, chauffeur services, car rental or group transport for the road journey to the city centre.
