Carriel Sur International Airport is the main air gateway to Concepción and the Biobío Region in south-central Chile. Located in the commune of Talcahuano, it serves as the principal airport for Greater Concepción and is one of the most important airports in the country.
Originally inaugurated in 1949, the airport received a new passenger terminal in the early 2000s and a major expansion completed in 2020 that enlarged the terminal and added international boarding capacity. The single terminal handles both domestic and international flights, including services between Concepción and Lima.
The airport sits about 8 km from central Concepción and is reached by road in roughly 15–20 minutes. Travelers can continue by taxi, private transfer, rental car, or public transport, with rail and bus options linking the airport area to Concepción and nearby communities such as Talcahuano and San Pedro de la Paz.
