About Carajás Airport
Carajás Airport is the main airport serving Parauapebas and the surrounding Carajás mineral region in southeastern Pará, Brazil. It opened in 1982 to support the Grande Carajás mining programme and was built primarily to serve the region's large iron ore operations.
Located around 18 km from central Parauapebas, the airport operates through a single passenger terminal and focuses on domestic flights, with regular connections linking the region to Belém, Belo Horizonte and Marabá. Managed by Aena Brasil since late 2023, the terminal has undergone improvements including an expanded check-in area and boarding lounge.
The airport is reached mainly by road along the PA-275. Taxis, private transfers, chauffeur services and rental cars provide onward travel to the city, nearby mining sites and the Carajás National Forest.
Despite its compact size, the airport offers essential passenger facilities including food and drink outlets, a gift shop, parking and accessibility features, making it a practical gateway for business and regional travellers.
