About Buochs Airport
Buochs Airport serves the town of Buochs and the surrounding canton of Nidwalden in central Switzerland. Located close to Lake Lucerne, it acts as a convenient general aviation gateway for the Lucerne area and the wider region.
Originally a military airfield, the site has been open to civil aviation since 1946 and is now operated by Airport Buochs AG. Today it mainly handles business aviation, works flights, transport flights and gliding, with a 2,000-metre asphalt runway and customs facilities for international arrivals.
The airport lies roughly 2 km west of Buochs and about 3 km from Stans, with Lucerne around 18 km away by road. The A2 motorway and local roads link the airport to nearby towns, while taxis and pre-arranged transfers provide onward connections to Lucerne, Stans and resort areas such as Engelberg.
Although it is a compact airport rather than a large scheduled hub, Buochs offers a straightforward, low-congestion arrival and departure experience for private and business travellers visiting central Switzerland.
