About Bokhtar International Airport
Bokhtar International Airport serves Bokhtar, the capital of Tajikistan's Khatlon Region and the largest city in the country's south-west. The airport lies about 5 km northeast of the city centre and provides a gateway for domestic connections within Tajikistan as well as limited international traffic.
Built during the Soviet period, the airport gained international status after the end of Tajikistan's civil war. It was previously known as Kurgan-Tyube or Qurghonteppa Airport and took its current name after the city was renamed Bokhtar. Recent renovation work has improved the passenger hall and terminal facilities.
The airport has a single runway and one passenger terminal, with a compact layout that keeps walking distances short. It is able to handle aircraft such as the Airbus A320 and Boeing 737, and remains one of Tajikistan's international airports despite the larger Kulob Airport nearby.
Bokhtar International Airport is reached by road from Bokhtar in roughly 10–15 minutes, with taxis and private transfers providing the main onward options. From the city, travellers can continue towards Dushanbe, about 100 km to the north, and other parts of southern Tajikistan.
