About Bharatpur Airport
Bharatpur Airport is a domestic airport serving Bharatpur city and the wider Chitwan District in south-central Nepal. It is the closest airport to Chitwan National Park and functions as the main air gateway for travellers heading to Sauraha and the area's jungle lodges.
Located about 1.6 km southwest of the Bharatpur city centre, the airport handles short domestic flights, mainly turboprop services from Kathmandu and Pokhara. Its single runway is approximately 1,158 metres long, and the compact terminal building covers departures, arrivals and check-in for domestic operations.
The airport was built in 1958 as part of the Chitwan Valley resettlement programme, with the first passenger flight landing in 1965. After a period of closure in the 1980s, a new terminal was built and the runway was paved in 2005 to accommodate medium-sized aircraft.
Bharatpur Airport is one of Nepal's busier domestic airports, with frequent connections to Kathmandu. From the airport, travellers can reach the city centre in a short drive or continue to Sauraha and Chitwan National Park by taxi, lodge pickup or pre-booked transfer.
