Belmonte Airport is a small regional airport serving the municipality of Belmonte on the far southern coast of Bahia, within the Costa do Descobrimento tourism region. Officially known as Aeródromo Doutor Roberto Cunha, it functions mainly as a municipal and regional gateway for local travellers and visitors to the area.
Located about 2 km from the centre of Belmonte, the airport has a single asphalt runway (4/22) of around 1,200 metres. In 2025, the State of Bahia signed an order to recover and improve the aerodrome, including runway resurfacing and terminal upgrades, to support tourism and regional development.
The airport provides convenient access to Belmonte's preserved beaches, the Jequitinhonha River area and the Costa do Descobrimento coastline. Porto Seguro Airport, roughly 70 km to the north, remains the main larger gateway for travellers continuing to other parts of the region.
Road connections, taxis, private transfers and rental cars link the airport with the town centre, coastal pousadas and nearby municipalities such as Canavieiras and Santa Cruz Cabrália.
