About Barra do Corda Airport
Barra do Corda Airport is a small regional airport serving Barra do Corda, a city in the central part of Maranhão, Brazil. It is one of the oldest airports in the state and mainly handles general aviation and regional air traffic for the surrounding area.
Located about 4 km from the city centre along the BR-226 highway, the airport is close enough for a short drive to Barra do Corda's hotels and central districts. Its single unpaved runway of about 1,560 metres can receive small and medium-sized aircraft, and the compact terminal provides basic services for arriving and departing passengers.
Because scheduled commercial services are limited, most travellers use the airport for private, charter and regional flights before continuing by road to cities such as São Luís, Teresina and Imperatriz. Local taxis and pre-arranged transfers connect the airport with the town centre.
As a modest regional facility, the airport offers straightforward passenger handling and convenient access to Barra do Corda, making it a practical entry point for visitors travelling to central Maranhão.
