About Bamenda Airport
Bamenda Airport is the main air gateway to Bamenda and the Northwest Region of Cameroon. Situated in the western highlands at an elevation of about 1,239 metres, the airport primarily supports domestic connections between the region and the country's larger hubs.
Opened in the mid-1980s with a 2,500-metre runway, the airport has long served as a strategic link for the region. Following periods of limited use and closure, recent rehabilitation works have modernized its runway, navigation systems and security screening to bring the facility up to operational standards.
The airport operates a single passenger terminal with a combined departures and arrivals area. It is located roughly 13 km from central Bamenda and is reached mainly by road, with local taxis and motorcycle taxis providing onward connections to the city and nearby towns such as Bafut.
Although facilities remain compact, the airport offers essential passenger services including a waiting area, basic refreshments and Wi-Fi access where available. It functions as a practical entry point for travelers heading into the Grassfields region and its surrounding highland communities.
