Balkhash Airport (BXH)

Balkhash Airport is a joint civil and military airport serving the city of Balkhash and the northern shore of Lake Balkhash in Kazakhstan's Karaganda Province. The airport was originally built in 1967 and acts as the main air gateway for the lakeside city and nearby resort areas.

Located approximately 6 km northeast of central Balkhash, the airport primarily handles domestic passenger flights, general aviation, and military traffic. After a full modernization completed in 2026, the facility reopened with reconstructed taxiways and apron, a renovated passenger terminal, and new arrivals and departure halls, baggage handling, and screening systems.

The airport connects Balkhash with Astana and Almaty through regular domestic services and is designed to handle up to 80 passengers per hour. It serves as an important access point for travelers heading to Lake Balkhash's beaches, resorts, and recreation zones.

Ground transportation from the airport to the city centre is generally available by taxi or pre-arranged private transfer, with the short journey covering only a few kilometres. The compact terminal and convenient location make the airport a practical entry point for visitors to the Balkhash region.
