About Badajoz Airport
Badajoz Airport is the only civil airport serving Badajoz and the wider Extremadura region in western Spain. Located about 14 km from the city centre and roughly 45 km from Mérida, it operates as part of the Talavera la Real military air base, with a civil passenger terminal managed by Aena. The airport opened to domestic air traffic in 1958 and has since provided a regional connection between Extremadura and the rest of Spain, mainly through domestic routes. Its single terminal building was expanded in 2010, adding more check-in counters and baggage reclaim capacity. Because the site is shared with an air base, Badajoz Airport keeps a compact, functional layout, with check-in, security and arrivals areas close together on the ground floor of the terminal. Travelers can reach the airport by car, taxi or private transfer, with the road connection to Badajoz taking around 15 to 20 minutes. The airport is a convenient entry point for visitors continuing to Badajoz, Mérida and other destinations in Extremadura.
