About Asaba International Airport
Asaba International Airport is the main airport serving Asaba, the capital of Delta State, and the wider southern Nigeria region. Built by the Delta State Government, it began commercial flight operations in July 2011 and primarily connects the city with major Nigerian destinations.
The airport operates through a single passenger terminal and a 3.4 km asphalt runway, handling scheduled domestic services to Lagos and Abuja alongside private and charter flights. It handled its first international flight in 2018 and received government approval for international operations in 2019.
Located off the Asaba–Benin Expressway, about 8 km east of the city centre, the airport is reached mainly by road. Taxis, private transfers and rental cars connect it to central Asaba, while the nearby Niger Bridge provides onward access to Onitsha and surrounding areas.
Passenger facilities include a lounge, restaurants, cafés, shops and seating areas, and the airport has been managed since 2021 under a concession held by the Asaba Airport Company. It remains an important regional gateway for travelers in southern Nigeria.
