About Artigas International Airport
Artigas International Airport (ATI) is the main airport serving Artigas, the capital of Artigas Department in northern Uruguay. The airport lies close to the Cuareim River and the border with Brazil, making it a practical gateway for regional travel and cross-border connections.
The airport was inaugurated in November 1973 and gained international status during the 1990s. It mainly supports domestic flights and general aviation, with visual flight rule operations and a compact single-terminal layout suited to its regional role.
Located about 4 km west of central Artigas, the airport can be reached by taxi, private transfer or rental car, usually within around 10 to 15 minutes. Its position south of the Cuareim River places the Brazilian town of Quaraí within a short distance across the border.
The airport has an asphalt runway of approximately 1,273 metres and a smaller grass runway, together with basic passenger facilities. Travellers should note that on-site services are limited and plan refreshments, currency and other needs around nearby Artigas.
