About Andravida Air Base
Andravida Air Base is a Hellenic Air Force military airfield in the western Peloponnese, close to the town of Andravida in the Elis regional unit of Greece. It is home to the 117 Combat Wing and serves as an important military aviation base for the region rather than a scheduled commercial airport.
Infrastructure works in the Andravida area began in 1955, and the air base was established as the Kyllini–Andravida Air Detachment in June 1960 before becoming the 117 Combat Group in 1961 and later the 117 Combat Wing. The first F-4E Phantom II aircraft arrived in April 1974, and the base has operated as a fighter airfield since that time.
The air base lies about 2.5 km east of Andravida, around 300 m from the Patras–Pyrgos national road, and roughly 30–35 km northwest of Pyrgos. Road access makes it reachable from nearby towns such as Lechena, Gastouni and Amaliada, as well as from Patras further north.
Because it is primarily a military installation, public passenger facilities are limited, with restaurants and other services mostly available in nearby towns. The base nonetheless functions as a recognized aviation point for the area, supported by local hotels, taxis and bus links in the surrounding Elis region.
