About Alicante-Elche Miguel Hernández Airport

Alicante-Elche Miguel Hernández Airport is the main international airport serving Alicante, Elche and the wider Costa Blanca region. Opened as El Altet airport in 1967 and renamed in 2021 in honour of the poet Miguel Hernández, it has grown into one of Spain's busiest gateways for leisure and low-cost travel.

Located about 9 km southwest of Alicante city centre and around 10 km east of Elche, the airport handles domestic and international flights across Europe and connects travellers with resorts and coastal towns such as Benidorm, Torrevieja, Calpe, Altea and Jávea. The current New Terminal Area (NAT) opened in 2011, consolidating passenger services that were previously spread across the older Terminal 1 and Terminal 2 buildings.

The airport is linked to Alicante by the C6 bus, taxis, private transfers, chauffeur services, rental cars and road connections, while the C6 also provides access to the TRAM network at Luceros station for onward travel along the Costa Blanca.

With restaurants, shops, lounges, duty-free outlets and other passenger facilities, the airport serves as a convenient arrival point for holidaymakers and business travellers exploring the Costa Blanca and the Region of Murcia.
