About Al Dhafra Air Base
Al Dhafra Air Base is a military installation located south of Abu Dhabi and is among the largest air bases in the United Arab Emirates. Opened in 1983, it supports the UAE Air Force and hosts allied forces from the United States and France.
The base sits approximately 30 km south of central Abu Dhabi and operates two runways, each measuring about 3,661 m, allowing it to handle a wide range of military aircraft. Its position makes it an important hub for defence operations across the region.
Because Al Dhafra is an active military facility rather than a commercial airport, public passenger access is restricted and normal airline check-in, departures and arrivals are not available to general travelers. Movement is controlled and limited to authorised personnel and approved missions.
Road links connect the base area to Abu Dhabi city, Al Ain and the wider Al Dhafra region, providing onward connections for approved visitors, personnel and support services.
Terminal Overview
