About Sir Bani Yas Airport
Sir Bani Yas Airport is the main gateway to Sir Bani Yas Island, a protected wildlife and eco-tourism destination in Abu Dhabi's Al Dhafra Region. The airport began operating in 2008 and primarily serves visitors travelling to the island's nature reserves and Anantara resort properties.
Located about 250 km southwest of the Abu Dhabi coast, the airport links the island with domestic services from Abu Dhabi and Dubai and also handles private and charter aviation. A comprehensive rehabilitation completed in 2025 reconstructed the runway, taxiways and apron, widened the runway to accommodate Code 4E aircraft, and introduced LED airfield lighting and upgraded weather observation systems.
The airport has a single runway and a compact terminal, with no public taxis, buses or rental car counters on the island. Transfers are coordinated through resorts and approved providers, and travellers can also reach the island by road and water taxi via Jebel Dhanna jetty.
With its small, resort-focused operation, the airport offers a simple arrival experience and direct access to the Arabian Wildlife Park and the island's lodges.
