About Akunnaaq Heliport
Akunnaaq Heliport is a small public helistop serving Akunnaaq, a village in the Qeqertalik municipality of western Greenland. Operated by the Greenland Airport Authority, it is served by Air Greenland settlement flights and functions as the village's air connection within the Disko Bay region.
The heliport has a single gravel landing area and no dedicated passenger terminal, so facilities remain minimal. Helicopter services typically connect Akunnaaq with Aasiaat and other nearby settlements, with settlement flights scheduled flexibly according to local demand and operated mainly during winter and spring.
Located just west of the village, the heliport is within easy walking distance of Akunnaaq. The nearest town, Aasiaat, lies about 22 km away and can be reached by helicopter in roughly 15 minutes; during summer and autumn, much of the local travel in the archipelago continues by sea with Diskoline.
Despite its simple infrastructure, the heliport provides an essential lifeline for residents and visitors moving between the smaller settlements of the Aasiaat archipelago and the wider Greenland transport network.
