The airport is located about 8 km from the city centre on the BA-290 highway, roughly 5 km from the BR-101, in the direction of Alcobaça. It has a single asphalt runway and a compact passenger terminal designed for small regional aircraft.
Commercial services have historically connected Teixeira de Freitas with Salvador and Belo Horizonte, and the airport reopened to scheduled flights in October 2022 with services to Salvador operated three times a week. Air taxi services are also available through regional operators.
