About Vaslui

Vaslui is a compact city in eastern Romania and the seat of Vaslui County, set in the historic region of Moldavia on the Bârlad River. With a population of around 63,000, it works as an administrative, agricultural and light-industrial centre for one of the country's more rural areas, while still keeping a relaxed provincial pace.

The city is best known for its connection to Stephen the Great, whose 1475 victory near Vaslui is remembered as one of Moldavia's most important battles. The Curtea Domnească archaeological site and the 15th-century Saint John the Baptist royal church remain the key historic landmarks, alongside the bronze statue of Stephen the Great in the civic square and the Vasile Pârvan Museum with its archaeology, history and ethnography collections.

Much of local life revolves around the central square, the green spaces of Copou Park and a few late-19th-century buildings such as the Mavrocordat House and the Palace of Justice. Neighbourhoods are mostly low-rise and walkable, and the surrounding county adds quieter destinations such as Huși, with its vineyards, and several rural monasteries and wooden churches.

Vaslui is a modest business base rather than a major commercial hub, with most economic activity in services, trade and food processing. For leisure travellers it offers an unhurried introduction to Romanian Moldavia, while business visitors use it as a practical stopover between Iași, Bacău and the smaller towns of the county.
