About Wiltz
Wiltz is a small town in north-western Luxembourg and the capital of the Canton of Wiltz, often described as the capital of the Ardennes or the Éislek region. Set along the River Wiltz among wooded hills, it combines a quiet, outdoorsy atmosphere with a role as the area's main administrative and cultural centre.
The town's identity is shaped by Wiltz Castle, whose Renaissance staircase, medieval remains and Witches Tower overlook the centre. The castle today houses the National Museum of Brewing and the Battle of the Bulge Museum, while the Tannery Museum recalls the leather industry that was important here from the 17th century.
In the upper and lower parts of the town, visitors can follow cultural trails past historic buildings, the Garden of Wiltz and the castle amphitheatre. Each June and July, the amphitheatre's staircase becomes the stage for the Wiltz Festival, one of Luxembourg's best-known open-air music and theatre events.
Wiltz also has a long brewing tradition: Brasserie Simon, founded in 1824, is based here, and local cafés and restaurants reflect the town's Luxembourgish and Ardennes character. The surrounding Éislek landscape offers hiking, cycling and access to the Upper Sûre Lake.
For travellers, Wiltz is a compact base for exploring northern Luxembourg's nature and heritage, while its events, public institutions and small-business scene also bring regional and business visitors throughout the year.
