About Remich

Remich is a small wine-growing commune with city status on the left bank of the Moselle, in Luxembourg's south-eastern corner. Surrounded by vineyards and wooded slopes, it is known as the 'Pearl of the Moselle' and feels more like a relaxed riverside village than a busy urban centre, with the river marking the border with Germany.

The town's history reaches back to Roman times, when it was known as Remacum and settled by fishers and boatmen. Repeated attacks and destruction, including by the Normans in 882, led to the building of a fortress, and traces of that past survive around the old centre and the St Nicholas Gate.

A tree-lined riverside promenade stretches for about three kilometres along the Moselle, offering views of passing boats and easy access to the pedestrian centre. Key stops include the Bacchus fountain, the parish church tower with its panoramic view, Park Brill, and river cruises that explore the Luxembourg–Germany–France border triangle.

Remich sits at the heart of Luxembourg's Moselle wine region. The town and nearby villages are home to wineries and the Vini-Viticole wine institute, where visitors can taste local Riesling, Elbling and Crémant; hotels and restaurants with riverside terraces anchor the local hospitality scene.

Its location between Luxembourg City and Trier makes Remich a practical base for both leisure and business travel. The thermal baths at Mondorf-les-Bains, cycling and hiking trails along the Moselle, and easy access to the capital give the town year-round appeal for short breaks, wine tourism and small events.
