About Wonderboom National Airport
Wonderboom National Airport is a general aviation airport serving Pretoria and the northern Gauteng region. Opened in 1937 on the farm Wonderboom, it was used temporarily for military training during World War II and later developed into a compact passenger and general aviation facility.
Located about 16 km north of central Pretoria, the airport provides a convenient alternative for Pretoria residents and businesses that would otherwise travel to O.R. Tambo International Airport in Johannesburg. It handles general aviation, charter flights, flight training and limited scheduled passenger services.
The airport was extensively expanded in 1965 with a new terminal building, hangars and an extended runway, and the main runway was upgraded to its present length of about 1,828 m in 1993. The City of Tshwane owns and operates the airport.
Road access is available via the N1 and R101, and the airport offers parking, a restaurant, duty-free shopping and car rental. Taxis and private transfers provide onward connections to Pretoria, Centurion and surrounding areas.
