The airport has a single grass runway of about 500 metres and a compact passenger handling area. Scheduled services connect the airstrip with Zorg en Hoop Airport in Paramaribo, with a typical flight time of around one hour, making it an important air link for this remote part of the Sipaliwini district.
Washabo is an indigenous village of the Lokono people, and Apoera lies about five kilometres away. Road access to the rest of the country is limited and slow, so small aircraft are often the most practical way to reach the area.
