Stoelmanseiland Airport (SMZ)

Stoelmanseiland Airport is a small airstrip serving Stoelmanseiland, a village and river island in the Paramacca resort of the Sipaliwini District in eastern Suriname. It lies near the confluence of the Tapanahony and Lawa rivers, where the Marowijne River forms the border with French Guiana.

The airport mainly supports domestic flights between Stoelmanseiland and the capital, Paramaribo, and provides an important air link for residents and visitors in this remote part of the Surinamese interior. It has a single grass runway and a compact passenger area rather than a large terminal complex.

Stoelmanseiland is about 185 km southeast of Paramaribo and has limited overland access, so the airstrip is a key connection for the surrounding riverside communities. Scheduled and charter small aircraft flights typically take around one hour between Paramaribo and the island.

Passengers should expect basic facilities and confirm flights and local transport arrangements in advance, as onward travel from the island generally continues by river or on foot.
