About Viru Viru International Airport
Viru Viru International Airport is the main international airport serving Santa Cruz de la Sierra and Bolivia's eastern lowlands. Opened in 1983 to replace the older El Trompillo Airport, it has become the country's largest and busiest airport and handles much of Bolivia's international air traffic.
Located about 17 km north of the city centre, the airport connects Santa Cruz with domestic destinations such as La Paz and Cochabamba and with international routes including Miami, Madrid, São Paulo, Buenos Aires, Lima, and Panama City. It is a key operating base for Boliviana de Aviación's long-haul services.
