About Vijayawada International Airport
Vijayawada International Airport is the main airport serving Vijayawada and the wider Andhra Pradesh capital region. Located in Gannavaram, it connects the city with major domestic destinations and a limited number of international services, functioning as a key gateway for business and leisure travelers in the region.
The airfield served as an army base during World War II and was later converted into a civilian airport. A new passenger terminal opened in January 2017, and the runway was subsequently extended to 3,360 metres to accommodate larger aircraft. The airport currently has separate terminal buildings for domestic and international passengers, with a new integrated terminal under construction to increase capacity.
The airport lies approximately 18 km from central Vijayawada and is connected to the city by National Highway 16. Travelers can continue their journey by taxi, private transfer, chauffeur service, car rental or pre-arranged group transport.
