About Veer Savarkar International Airport
Veer Savarkar International Airport is the only commercial airport serving the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, a union territory of India. Located about 2 km south of Port Blair, the capital, it acts as the main gateway to more than 500 islands and is operated as a civil enclave at INS Utkrosh, with the passenger terminal run by the Airports Authority of India.
The airport's new integrated terminal building opened in July 2023. Built over about 40,800 square metres, the oyster-shaped structure is designed to use natural daylight and has capacity for around 1,200 passengers during peak hours, supporting both domestic and international operations.
Passengers can reach central Port Blair by prepaid taxi, private cab, car rental or local bus in roughly 10 to 15 minutes. From the city, ferry services at nearby jetties connect travellers to popular islands such as Swaraj Dweep (Havelock) and Shaheed Dweep (Neil).
Inside the terminal, travellers find check-in counters, self-service kiosks, shops, dining outlets, a lounge, a nursing room, a medical room and other practical amenities, making the airport a convenient starting point for island holidays and business trips.
