About Enschede Airport Twente
Enschede Airport Twente is a civilian regional airport serving Enschede and the Twente region of Overijssel in the eastern Netherlands. Opened in 1931, it developed from a pre-war airfield into a military base and is now part of the Technology Base innovation campus, focusing on business aviation, general aviation and sustainable aviation testing.
The airport lies about 5 km north of Enschede city center, close to the A1 motorway and the N737 route. It has a single runway of almost 3 km, which also supports aircraft parking, maintenance and decommissioning activities, and it serves charter flights, private jets and recreational flying.
Since March 2017, Twente Airport has operated as a civilian regional airport after the former military airbase closed to scheduled aviation in 2008. It does not currently handle regular scheduled passenger flights.
Travelers reach the airport by car via the A1 motorway or from Enschede via the N737, and continue to the city center and surrounding towns by taxi, private transfer or rental car. With its secure fenced site, hangars and support facilities, it functions as a compact gateway for business and general aviation in the region.
