It is used mainly for domestic charter and company flights, and plays an important role in connecting remote Amazonian communities and local oil operations with Iquitos and other regional points.
The airport lies on the south bank of the Corrientes River, close to the Pluspetrol oil camp and roughly 2 km from the centre of Villa Trompeteros. It has a single asphalt runway, 11/29, measuring about 1,850 metres, and a compact terminal building handling a limited number of regional flights.
