About Trieste Airport

Trieste Airport is the main international airport serving Trieste and the wider Friuli Venezia Giulia region in northeastern Italy. Located near Ronchi dei Legionari in the Province of Gorizia, about 33 km from central Trieste, it connects the city and surrounding areas to domestic and European routes and acts as a convenient gateway to the Slovenian border region and the northern Adriatic.

The airport's history dates back to the 1930s, when the Ronchi dei Legionari airfield was used by the Italian Air Force. Commercial operations began in December 1961, and the airport is named after the Friulian explorer Pietro Savorgnan di Brazzà. A modern passenger terminal opened in 1998, and in 2018 the facility was refurbished together with a new multimodal hub.

The terminal is compact and easy to navigate, with check-in and arrivals on the ground floor and departures, security screening and boarding gates on the first floor. Passenger facilities include the Sala Calligaris VIP Lounge, bars, a restaurant, shops, free Wi-Fi and accessibility services.

The airport is connected to Trieste by the Trieste Airport railway station on the Venice–Trieste line, with regional trains reaching the city in about 30 minutes. Buses, taxis, car rental and private transfers also provide onward connections to Trieste, Gorizia, Udine and other destinations across the region.
