Taranto-Grottaglie Marcello Arlotta Airport (TAR)

Taranto-Grottaglie Marcello Arlotta Airport is a joint civil-military airport serving the city of Taranto and the wider province in Puglia, southern Italy. The airfield opened to commercial flights in 1964, when Alitalia began scheduled services to Rome, and later underwent periods of limited use before passenger terminal improvements were carried out.

Located near Grottaglie, roughly 16 km from Taranto, the airport provides road access toward the city and the surrounding Apulia region. In recent years its focus has shifted toward cargo, logistics and aerospace testing, and it is being developed as a national spaceport, while scheduled passenger operations remain limited.

The airport is connected to Taranto and nearby towns by road, with taxis, private transfers, chauffeur services and rental cars among the practical onward travel options. Most scheduled passenger traffic for the area is handled by the larger airports at Bari and Brindisi.

With a single passenger terminal and basic traveller facilities, the airport functions mainly as a specialist and logistics gateway for the Taranto area, with onward connections to coastal and inland destinations across Puglia.
