About Tandag Airport
Tandag Airport is a small domestic airport serving Tandag, the capital city of Surigao del Sur in the Caraga region of Mindanao, Philippines. It is located in Barangay Awasian, about 4 km from the city centre, and is classified as a Class 2 minor domestic airport operated by the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines.
The airport has a single concrete runway and one passenger terminal building. Cebu Pacific launched thrice-weekly Cebu–Tandag flights in June 2014 operated by CebGo using ATR 72 aircraft, but the route was discontinued in September 2018 due to declining demand. Commercial services have since been limited, and the airport now mainly supports general aviation, charter and emergency operations.
Road links connect the airport to downtown Tandag, where tricycles, taxis, jeepneys and private vehicles are available for the short transfer into town. From Tandag, travelers can reach Surigao del Sur attractions such as the Britania Islands and the Enchanted River, while larger airports in the region provide alternative connections for onward travel.
Runway extension and night-rating improvements announced in 2021 aim to attract airlines back to the airport and strengthen its role as a gateway to Surigao del Sur's coastal destinations.
