About Zamboanga Sibugay
Zamboanga Sibugay is a coastal province on the Zamboanga Peninsula in western Mindanao, with Ipil as its capital and main gateway. Created in 2001 from part of Zamboanga del Sur, the province is known for quiet white-sand beaches, offshore islands, waterfalls and a largely agricultural economy, rather than mass tourism.
The province takes its name from the Sibuguey River, which runs through several municipalities and empties into Sibuguey Bay. Most residents speak Cebuano, with Subanen communities, Chavacano speakers and other Mindanao groups adding to the mix. Ipil is the administrative and commercial centre, home to the provincial capitol and the annual Sibug-Sibug Festival in February.
Coastal and natural attractions are the main draw. Buluan Island, just off Ipil, has a marine sanctuary and shallow beaches; Pandilusan Island in Payao and Litayon Island in Alicia are known for white sand and clear water. Inland, Palina Falls near Ipil and Tagbilat Falls in Titay offer forested swimming and picnic spots.
The economy centres on rice, corn, coconut, rubber, fishing and aquaculture, with Ipil Port handling local trade and the provincial government based in the capital. Business travel is mostly tied to agribusiness, public administration, logistics and small-scale commerce across its 16 municipalities.
Zamboanga Sibugay is reached mainly by road from Zamboanga City, with buses and vans running to Ipil in about three to four hours, while Pagadian provides another entry point. For leisure visitors it offers a slower-paced island-hopping and eco-tourism alternative, and for business travellers it is a practical regional destination with Ipil as the central base.

Tricycles and habal-habal motorcycle taxis are common for short trips around Ipil and nearby barangays. Buses, vans and jeepneys link the province's municipalities, while outrigger boats serve island and coastal destinations.
Where to Stay
