About Stockholm Landing Strip

Stockholm Landing Strip is a small coastal airstrip on the Gazelle Peninsula in East New Britain Province, Papua New Guinea. It sits on the Stockholm plantation, a coconut estate founded in 1926 by Swedish settler Ragnar Lindahl, from which the area takes its name.

A grass strip was built along the shore in the 1960s for light aircraft. It was later damaged and is no longer in regular commercial use, so scheduled air travel for the region is handled mainly through Tokua Airport, which serves Rabaul and Kokopo.

The strip lies roughly 70 kilometres from Rabaul and about 80 kilometres from Kokopo, with no direct road access to the plantation. Visitors generally reach the area by boat from Rabaul, Kokopo or nearby coastal points, or by light aircraft.

Because of its remote setting, facilities are minimal and the strip functions mainly as a local landing point rather than a full passenger airport. Travelers heading to the Gazelle Peninsula should plan onward connections carefully.
