About Takotna Airport

Takotna Airport is a small state-owned public-use airport serving the village of Takotna in the Yukon-Koyukuk Census Area of interior Alaska. Opened in October 1949, it remains an essential year-round link for a community that is not connected to the Alaska road system and is otherwise reached by air or water.

Located about 1 mile (1.6 km) east of Takotna, the airport has a single gravel runway, Runway 4/22, measuring approximately 3,300 by 60 feet (1,006 by 18 metres), with no control tower. It primarily handles general aviation, air taxi and charter traffic connecting the village to regional centres such as McGrath, about 17 air miles to the east.

The airfield is compact and does not have a conventional passenger terminal; check-in, boarding and arrivals are handled directly with the operating air carrier. A short access road links the airport to the village, and local roads connect toward Tatalina, although most onward travel and cargo movement depends on air service.

Facilities at the airport are limited, with no fuel or maintenance services available on site, so passengers and pilots typically plan ahead and use services in McGrath or other regional communities. Despite its modest infrastructure, the airport is the community's principal gateway and supports year-round passenger, freight and emergency access.
