St. Louis Downtown Airport is a public-use general aviation airport serving the St. Louis metropolitan area from Cahokia Heights, Illinois, directly across the Mississippi River from the Gateway Arch. It functions as a reliever airport for St. Louis Lambert International Airport and primarily handles corporate, charter and private aviation traffic.
The airfield opened in 1929 as Curtiss-Steinberg Airport and later served as a pilot training site. After closing in 1959, it was purchased by Bi-State Development, reopened in 1965 as Bi-State Parks Airport, and renamed St. Louis Downtown Airport in 1999 to emphasize its location near the city centre.
Located about three miles from downtown St. Louis, the airport has three runways, a single passenger terminal and hangars spread across more than 1,000 acres. Jet Aviation and Ideal Aviation provide fixed-base operator services, while Gulfstream Aerospace and West Star Aviation operate major maintenance and overhaul facilities on the field.
