Sparta Community-Hunter Field is a public-use general aviation airport serving Sparta and Randolph County in southern Illinois. It has been operating since the 1950s and is owned and managed by the Sparta Community Airport Authority.
The airport lies about two miles north of downtown Sparta and roughly 44 miles southeast of East St. Louis, placing the wider St. Louis metropolitan area within convenient driving range. It mainly supports general aviation, along with air taxi and some military traffic, rather than scheduled airline flights.
Sparta Community-Hunter Field has two runways: an asphalt runway, 18/36, and a turf runway, 9/27. The on-site FBO, Sparta Aero Services, provides fueling, hangars, aircraft parking, flight training, aircraft rental and maintenance, together with a small passenger terminal.
The airport is reached by local roads from Sparta, with the city centre only a short drive away.
