About Sonari Airport
Sonari Airport is the main domestic airport serving Jamshedpur, the industrial steel city of Jharkhand. Owned by Tata Steel and also known as Jamshedpur Airport, it links the city and surrounding region with regional destinations including Kolkata and Bhubaneswar.
Commercial services resumed in early 2023, with regional aircraft operating from a single passenger terminal and a short asphalt runway. The compact layout is designed for quick processing, making it a practical choice for business travelers and residents in the industrial corridor.
Located approximately 4.4 km from the city centre, the airport is reached by taxi, auto-rickshaw, app-based cab services and private cars. Tatanagar Railway Station and major parts of Jamshedpur are within a short drive.
Facilities are focused on essentials, including a waiting area, check-in counters, refreshment kiosks, baggage handling, ATMs and assistance for passengers with reduced mobility. While dining and shopping options are limited, the airport offers a streamlined experience for regional travel.
