About Shumba Airport
Shumba Airport is the main air gateway serving Jaén and the surrounding Cajamarca region in northern Peru, providing domestic connections mainly between Lima and this part of the country. It plays an important role for travellers visiting Jaén and continuing toward destinations such as Bagua Grande and Chachapoyas.
The airport opened in 1995 and is located in the Bellavista district, approximately 17 km from Jaén city centre. After a period of closure lasting more than two years, it resumed commercial operations in late 2025 following the rehabilitation of its runway, with LATAM operating flights between Lima and Jaén.
Passenger services are handled through a single terminal, with a 2,400-metre runway supporting regional commercial aircraft. Road access links the airport to Jaén and onward routes across northern Peru, with taxis, private transfers and rental cars available for the journey into the city.
As a regional gateway, the airport supports travel, trade and tourism across the nororiental part of Peru, connecting Jaén and nearby areas with the national capital and the wider domestic flight network.
