About Sharana Airstrip
Sharana Airstrip is a small public airfield serving Sharana, the capital of Paktika Province in eastern Afghanistan. The airfield provides air access to a mountainous and sparsely populated region, supporting government, humanitarian, military and private aviation needs rather than a regular commercial airline schedule.
The site previously operated as Forward Operating Base Sharana, a large military base, before becoming the location of the public airfield. It sits at a high elevation of around 2,266 metres (7,435 feet) and has a single hard-surfaced runway, designated 14/32, measuring roughly 1,300 metres by 19 metres.
The airfield is located about 4 km southeast of Sharana and approximately 160 km south of Kabul. Road transport is the main way to continue to the town and other parts of Paktika Province, with taxis, private transfers and arranged vehicles being the most practical options.
Passenger facilities are limited compared with larger airports, and there are currently no scheduled airlines operating at the airfield. Travelers should arrange transport and confirm any services with their operator in advance.
