About Kunduz Airport
Kunduz Airport is the main airport serving Kunduz city and Kunduz Province in northern Afghanistan. Located about 8 km southeast of the city centre, it links the area with domestic air services and has also supported military and humanitarian flights.
The airport has a single asphalt runway, numbered 11/29 and measuring about 2,469 metres in length. A new passenger terminal opened in 2017 with capacity for up to 1,300 passengers, improving the airport's ability to handle travellers.
Since the change in government in 2021, operations have focused mainly on military and humanitarian flights rather than scheduled commercial airlines. The airport continues to be used by aid organizations and the Afghan Air Force.
Road access connects the airport to Kunduz city by car or taxi, making onward travel relatively short. Facilities remain basic, with a passenger terminal and limited services compared with larger international airports.
