São Mateus - Ernesto Bonomo Airport is a civil airport serving São Mateus and the northern Espírito Santo region. Located along the ES-315 highway, it is the second-largest airport in Espírito Santo and mainly supports private, executive and general aviation traffic.
The airport's origins date back to the early 1940s, when a landing field was built to support Brazilian Air Force aircraft during the Second World War. The site later developed into a public airfield with a single asphalt runway, which remains in operation today.
Situated about 3 km southeast of central São Mateus and roughly 219 km northeast of Vitória, the airport is reached by paved road and connects to the regional highway network through the BR-101. This makes it convenient for travelers continuing to the city centre, coastal areas such as Guriri, and nearby towns.
The airport has a single passenger terminal building with a basic waiting area and general aviation facilities. Because it does not currently handle regular scheduled commercial flights, it functions mainly as a regional gateway for private travel and executive aviation in northern Espírito Santo.
