About Santos Nero Moura Air Base / Guarujá Airport
Santos Nero Moura Air Base / Guarujá Airport (SSZ) is a Brazilian Air Force installation located in the Vicente de Carvalho district of Guarujá, on the coast of São Paulo state. The site's aviation history dates back to the laying of its foundation stone in 1922, and it has been operated by the Brazilian Air Force since 1941, supporting the defence of the Port of Santos and coastal patrol missions.
Located about 9 km from downtown Guarujá and roughly 17 km from downtown Santos, the airfield serves the Baixada Santista region. It is being developed as the Guarujá Metropolitan Civil Airport, with a civil passenger terminal planned within the base area to bring air services closer to the beaches, port and residential areas of the São Paulo coast.
The airfield has a single asphalt runway of approximately 1,390 metres, used for military operations and shared with the civil aviation project. Infrastructure improvements and the civil terminal have been developed in phases, with the aim of creating a compact passenger airport connected to the surrounding metropolitan region.
Ground access is available by road from Guarujá, Santos and the wider Baixada Santista, with private transfers, taxis, chauffeur services and car rental offering onward connections to hotels, beaches and business destinations. Its coastal position makes it a practical entry point for travellers visiting the São Paulo shoreline.
