About Samburu Airport
Samburu Airport is a small civilian airstrip serving Samburu National Reserve in Samburu County, northern Kenya. It functions primarily as a safari gateway, connecting visitors with lodges and camps across the Samburu, Buffalo Springs and Shaba conservation areas.
The airstrip sits within the reserve at an elevation of about 1,004 metres and has a single asphalt runway. Scheduled safari flights and charters operate mainly between the airstrip and Nairobi's Wilson Airport, bringing travelers directly to the region's wildlife areas.
Because the airstrip is located inside a remote conservation area, onward travel is usually arranged by lodge vehicles or pre-booked transfers to camps and nearby towns such as Isiolo, roughly 42 km away.
Despite its small size, Samburu Airport offers a practical shortcut to northern Kenya's safari country, avoiding the long road journey from Nairobi.
