About Diani Airport
Diani Airport, formerly known as Ukunda Airstrip, is a small regional airport near Diani Beach in Kwale County, Kenya. It serves as the main air gateway to Diani Beach, Ukunda, Tiwi and Msambweni, the popular coastal stretch south of Mombasa.
The airport was renamed Diani Airport in 2019 as part of efforts to promote the South Coast as a tourism destination. It handles scheduled domestic flights from Nairobi and Mombasa, together with private charters linking beach resorts to inland safari areas. A 1,174-metre runway and compact terminal support these operations, while upgrade works have extended the runway and improved aprons and taxiways to accommodate larger aircraft.
Located in Ukunda, about 30 kilometres south of Mombasa, the airport is only a short drive from Diani Beach and nearby resorts. Taxis, tuk-tuks, hotel shuttles and pre-arranged transfers provide onward connections, while Mombasa can be reached by road and the Likoni ferry crossing.
Its compact size keeps arrivals and departures simple, making it a convenient gateway for travelers heading to Kenya's southern coast.
