About Salima Airport
Salima Airport (LMB) is a small domestic airfield serving the town of Salima and the Senga Bay area on the eastern shore of Lake Malawi. It is located about 15 km by road east of Salima town centre and is managed and operated by the Malawi Defence Force.
The airport has a single grass runway of around 1,500 metres and handles light aircraft, small turboprops, general aviation and military movements rather than large-scale commercial traffic. Because of its proximity to Lilongwe, most scheduled passenger flights use Kamuzu International Airport (LLW), roughly 125 km to the west.
Road access connects the airfield to Salima town, Senga Bay and the lakeside lodges and resorts along Lake Malawi. Taxis, private transfers and pre-arranged vehicles are the main ways to continue a journey after arrival.
