Salamanca Airport, also known as Matacán Airport, is the air gateway serving the city of Salamanca and the province in Castilla y León. It operates on the Matacán airbase, open to civilian air traffic, combining a civil airport with Spanish Air Force facilities.
Located about 15 km east of the city within the municipal districts of Machacón, Calvarrasa de Abajo and Villagonzalo de Tormes, the airport mainly handles domestic scheduled flights and seasonal charter services. The passenger terminal opened in October 2005 and is arranged over two floors, with departures, check-in, boarding and arrivals on the ground floor and technical and administrative offices on the first floor.
Road access is via the N-501 and the A-50 motorway, while taxis run from the terminal to Salamanca. A bus service operates when flight traffic is more continuous and is timed to scheduled flights. Parking at the airport is free.
Despite its compact size, the airport provides essential passenger services including a cafeteria, free Wi-Fi and accessibility support, making it a convenient entry point for visiting Salamanca, its historic university city centre and the wider Castilla y León region.
