About Royal Zambezi Lodge Airstrip
Royal Zambezi Lodge Airstrip is a private airstrip located in Zambia's Lower Zambezi National Park, close to Chiawa on the banks of the Zambezi River. Also known as Royal Airstrip, it mainly serves guests travelling to and from Royal Zambezi Lodge, which sits opposite Zimbabwe's Mana Pools National Park.
The airstrip has a single tarred runway of about 1.7 km and lies roughly 5–10 minutes' drive from the lodge. It is used primarily by light aircraft and charter flights, with connections of around 25–30 minutes to Lusaka and onward charter options from Livingstone and Mfuwe.
On arrival, passengers are met by lodge guides who help with luggage and transfer them the short distance to the lodge. As a small bush airstrip, it has limited passenger infrastructure, with most services and facilities located at the nearby lodge.
Because road access is long and requires a 4x4 vehicle, flying into the airstrip is the most practical way to reach the lodge and begin a Lower Zambezi safari.
