About Kalumbila Airport

Kalumbila Airport is a domestic airport serving the Kalumbila mining town and the surrounding North-Western Province of Zambia. It was developed as part of the Kalumbila mining project, which is associated with First Quantum Minerals and its Sentinel copper mine, and provides air access for business, mining and regional travel.

Located in the Kalumbila area roughly 150 km west of Solwezi, the airport has a long asphalt runway of about 2.7 km, one of the longest in Zambia, allowing it to handle mid-size regional aircraft. Scheduled passenger services are operated by Proflight Zambia, connecting Kalumbila with Lusaka and Solwezi; flights to and from Lusaka take around one hour non-stop or about two hours via Solwezi.

The airport's compact terminal supports check-in, security screening, baggage handling and passenger waiting areas, with a practical focus on mine-related and business travel. Most passengers complete the final part of their journey by road, using private vehicles, transfers or mining-company transport to reach Kalumbila town, the Sentinel mine site and other parts of the province.

For travellers, Kalumbila Airport is a small but important regional gateway in a remote part of northwestern Zambia. It reduces what would otherwise be a long road journey of roughly 668 km from Lusaka and offers a convenient connection for people working at or visiting the Kalumbila mining area.
